Coffiest

Bjørn-Kowalski Hansen opened the coffee bar Coffiest, at Hotel Victoria, Norway – 20th March, as a part of the group show Fiction at Kunstbank Hedmark Kunstsenter.

The artist has used the classic sci-fi novel The Space Merchants from 1952 by Frederik Pohl and Cyril M. Kornbluth as a backdrop for his project. The world has been divided between two competing companies who share whatever profit they’re capable of generating. They’re advertising agencies, but not fun ones like the one in Mad Men. They do extensive lab testing on humans, they sell products that are only marginally different from heroin, they occasionally order troublesome individuals to be assassinated and they’re trying to sell an overcrowded Earth the idea that it could be fun to move to Venus.

One of the brands that are mentioned in this novel, is Coffiest.
The artist has designed a logo, and through the Norwegian patent office, (Patenstyret)
applied for the rights to the name and brand. The artist owns the brand and it is for sale.

The product is a result of a collaboration between the Norwegian coffee importer Solberg & Hansen and the artist, and is only available through Coffiest outlets.
